Disrupting Stereotypes

Ooooo so I said I was gonna do a better job at journaling butttttttt that didn't happen hahahaha.

Life is just crazy as a missionary😆because I get about 4 hours a day of free time, and it seems 2 of those hours is daily planning trying to workout with cement weights, cooking breakfast and getting ready for the entire day. So not much left for free time haha. And then at night we get back at 8:00-8:30 and then need to be asleep by 10:00. And you have to cook dinner and eat and shower in that time as well. So let's just say if you're not efficient in what you do you just don't get any free time. Or things get sacrificed like journaling😅

Soooo anywaysss let's get started

We actually set up a class for members who want to learn extra English on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday which is super fun because we read The Book of Mormon in English and then I help them understand the scripture as well, which is super lit! This week we ate a lot with members too which is always super nice. We ate this one dessert that is like pumpkin with coconut milk and gummy thingies and some other gummy things they call frog eyes, just because they look like frog eyes. But I wouldn't put it past them to put something like that in a meal. Come to think of it, I ate a whole entire barbecued froggie so that means I have eaten frog eyes before haha, weird.

Ooo this week I asked the pizza worker if she had ever wondered what happens after we die in this life, she said "yes" and I asked her if she wanted to know more and she also said "yes." So, we were able to teach her Saturday which was super amazing.

Also, I'm known as the elder that knows how to eat everything😆the sisters have a teaching friend that is getting baptized this next Sunday and they asked her who she wanted to baptize her and she says, "hmm. . .oh the elder who know how to eat everything." hahaha so at least I'm making an impression. It honestly is so fun though when you surprise everyone and go against the typical white missionary stereotype here😆 There is some food you have to have a strategy to be able to eat it. I'll give you the secret combination on how to eat every and any type food.

First mind over matter,

Second eat slow so they don't give you more

Third if it's really that bad and strong dilute it with ALOT of rice

Fourth hide your expression and don't tell them it's gross

Boom! Instant love and acceptance to the culture, hahaha

Another highlight of the week was we got to learn how to make (nome-on-saum). We cut the banana leaves into squares and then packed them with the rice and some with banana and some with pork. First one I tried making was super bad and bong Khim Chou had to help fix mine but I think I got the slight hang of it hahaha😅 I made like 15 and only a couple had to be helped so they don't fall apart when they get boiled. But it was super fun! I will say, my legs were dead. We sat in "indian style" for like 4 hours and man, I felt like I couldn't walk hahaha.

Anyway for the most par that was our week.

I love all of you guys and remember procrastination is one of the biggest tools satan uses to stop our eternal progression. Even Elder Christofferson talks about it in this last General Conference ("Bury Your Weapons of Rebellion"), "passive rebellion" is ignoring His will in our lives and procrastinating the things we should be doing. Christofferson tells us that passive rebellion is "perhaps the more insidious form of rebellion" soooo that's kinda big hahaha. So maybe do a self check, like I am doing, and then recommit yourself to eliminating any kind of rebellion towards God out of your life.

Anyway hopefully that helps someone out, love you guysssss!

Bye bye

  1. I love this talk about “bury your weapons”… it actually was our RS lesson last Sunday. It just happened to be the conference talk that we choose to study for our monthly lesson. It definitely makes you reconsider some of your habits and evaluate what may be “my” personal passive procrastinations. Thanks for you email, Elder! 😊
