God is in the Details
Hello my beloved people haha this week was great but only because the Lord was able to fix my way of thinking, or my perspective I guess you could say. So let's start off by sharing why.
This last week was kind of hard but I don't think I would've traded it. I got humbled this last week with some negative thinking and a stomach flu that lasted three days and now has turned into blocked sinuses and a headache for the last two days. The reason I say I wouldn't trade it is because I feel I was taking good health and other blessings the Lord gives me daily for granted!
As I was sick to my stomach, I had time to ponder while resting and while riding my bike since I was doing that slower now that my whole body hurt. I just thought about how if satan could have things his way, we would be miserable all the time. Just like I was miserable right there and then. Every day, hour, minute, and second would be awful. I thought about the scripture that says something like. . .the natural man is an enemy to God. How true! Why is it that when things go wrong, we're so quick to blame satan, other people or even sometimes God! But when things go right we are so quick to say "wow, look at me" "wow, I'm doing great!" "Look, my hard work has finally paid off." Where's the credit to God??? Even when things are normal, that's still God blessing and protecting us from satan's influence. So, I'm grateful for hard times to keep me humble and to help me really, truly realize that god is in the details of my life.
God is all merciful and all loving too though because man, this Sunday was amazing!!!! On my right was a new member recently baptized (who later in the meeting went up and bore his testimony in front of everyone (some 100 people) and then a teaching friend too. Off to my left was a brand new teaching friend we only met one time before and he is just awesome! His name is Charlie (Khmer Chai-ly) and then up in front was the two senior missionaries; Elder and Sister Webb (maybe related to Grandma and Grandpa Webb but haven't checked through family tree yet) and then off to the front left was my companion sitting with another one of our teaching friends whose name is Seth (pronounced Set) who is simply learning because his mom died and he wants to see her again in Heaven.
As we were sitting there, partaking of the sacrament and singing hymns, I thought to myself, "If every week has to be as hard and crappy as this last week so Sundays like this can happen then so be it!!! I'll take them." Earlier in the week I also thought to myself, "I'd rather be trying to serve God with my whole heart here in Cambodia, having a hard time with sickness and opposition from satan than be home not fulfilling my calling as a young man who's been called to the work from God."
For this email I think I'm just going to write that much, well maybe a little more. Charlie is a miracle. He just walked onto the church grounds and asked to be taught. Seth is a miracle cause the same thing happened with him too. Stay tuned to hear their progression.
We're also teaching a family right now and the kids are so "in" and the dad is really "in" and the mom is getting there, haha. But they love us and they love their kids so surely things will go well since the Gospel of Jesus Christ focuses on the Family and how to create a better future for your family.
Also, transfers were this last week so I just got this one and the next and I'll be done! Super crazy!
For anyone that is wondering if God is in the details of your life just remember that if He truly left you that satan would have full power to make everything in you life go wrong. So, the very fact that you can breathe is a miracle from God. Don't let satan blind you from how much good God does in your lives.
God uses the very trials satan manages to put us through to then help us grow and become who we were foreordained to be!
You are a son or daughter of God with divine potential and He will not let satan overpower you. All you have to do is put your trust in Him!
I love you and I sure do know that Jesus Christ loves you and knows you by name too!
Love Elder Acton
